The Dream

To everyone who I have told about this beautiful new venture: Thank you for showing up! I am excited, as per usual, about the dreams I am dreaming and the visions I'm seeing. I want you to know that I am thankful you're here, and also that this is a grand experiment. Like most of my life so far, I have sporadically had an idea and followed through on it, which sometimes works and often doesn't, so we will see where this goes and how God moves.

So here it is: I want to create a space in which Scripture is held in authority over our lives, and is used as a foundation with which to align our thoughts. I spend most of my life inside my own head, and I have found that, as much as I love Scripture and see the value in it, I keep approaching it as a way to change my heart and my behavior. The problem with this approach is that I have learned, through psychology and through trial and error, that it is our thoughts that create our emotions, and it is our emotions that change our behavior. I have sat down in front of Scripture each morning now for almost six years, and I have yet to see a measurable change in how I act, react and feel - and it is not for a lack of trying. I have tried and I have tried and I have tried, but it is hard to force Scripture straight into your heart, or worse - straight into your actions. If what I have learned is true, then it is quite possible that the best way to change your life using Scripture is to first change your thoughts, which will in turn change your emotions, which will in turn change your entire life.

I would also love to preface this experiment with the Gospel. This dream laid itself on my heart in the midst of learning the truth about Jesus Christ: That God loves me despite my terrible ways; that He died for me on a cross; that He rose from the grave and defeated death; that He has given me the gift of trusted salvation in Him; that I have accepted Him, and that the Holy Spirit now invigorates my entire life. It is the most beautiful thing in the world, and Scripture makes zero sense without it. The Gospel is the reason I write, the reason I preach, the reason I sing, the reason I breathe. Jesus Christ is the entire point - He is the Eiffel Tower in the midst of crowded Parisian streets, and He is the foundation on which to build an entire life.

So this is the dream. Thanks for joining in - it's gonna be a blast!
