Weeks 10 & 11
I'm reading G. K. Chesterton's Orthodoxy right now, and he talks a lot about fairytales, which makes me happy because fairytales have always been my primary language. He specifically speaks about the wonder that we find in our world - that the fact that grass is green is a marvelous thing because it could be red, or blue, but it is not. Apple trees are beautiful because they grow fruit, when they could grow tigers instead. This is how I have always felt about life, and I noticed it the other day when I saw a couple walking their massive golden-doodle. It hit me upon seeing it all that it was strange, two people walking a bear-like creature on a leash, and I laughed out loud, because the wonder of it all got through to me - that these things don't have to exist, but they do, and that in itself is a miracle. I think it's also how I feel about these truths. Christ does not have to feed me. He doesn't have to provide or nourish or bring relief, but he does. That's why writing this blog matters to me - because I need to see the truth for the real-life fairytale it is. It's all magic.
